Ylang Ylang is poisonous to cats and dogs. So do not apply Ylang Ylang essential oil onto the pets’ paws, coats, and skin. Also, make sure not to use Ylang Ylang essential oil where your pets might lick or inhale it. 

Does it irritate the skin when applied topically? 

There are several allergens contained in Ylang-ylang essential oil, such as isoeugenol. Isoeugenol has been known to have connections to dermatitis and can irritate the skin when topically applied. 

Like any other essential oil, do not just use Ylang-ylang essential oil full strength with first diluting it with a carrier oil. You should always do a patch test on a small area of your skin, such as on the hand, before putting it onto a large area of your skin like face, body, or scalp.
