Choosing: Anti-Aging Products

There are so many shimmering new anti-aging products that are now entering the skincare market all the time, so how do we know which one are the good ones?

Many magazine editors just want to be promoting every ingredient available in the skincare products.

But have you wondered if it is so good as it claimed it to be? Do not be so swayed by the magical potion packaging – like thinking wow it is so pretty. Always have other people try it first, let other people be the guinea pigs.

Start with sunscreen and moisturizer

Sunscreen and moisturizers are the two most effective anti-aging products you can buy. You will notice a positive difference in your skin if you use both of these products every day. You will also be protecting it from further damages.

Buy sunscreens that are broad-spectrum meaning that they protect against all UVA, and UVB damages, SPF 30 above, water-resistant, cut down on reapplication throughout the body (although reapplication on exposed skin every two hours is still a good idea).

Using a moisturizer with sunscreen is fine and it does double duty as long as it meets the criteria described here.

Treat your number one aging skin concern

It could take many weeks before you realize a difference in your skin with consistent sunscreen and moisturizer use. I also believe to get the best results when you use your products to treat unique issues, like wrinkles or dark spots.

Despite all the claims, no one product can treat all the signs of skin aging equally. That is it is always best to choose one product to treat wrinkles, and another one to treat dark spots.

Buy products for your skin types

There is no one size fits all kind of products, so remember to read labels and choose a product that can meet the needs of your skin, whether it is oily, dry, sensitive, or a combination.

Read product labels and select a product that offers all of the following:

Along with selecting the product that is right for your skin types also make sure the label also says the product is hypoallergenic to reduce the chance of an allergic reaction, noncomedogenic, or nonacnegenic to prevent acne.

Avoid the following ingredients on product labels.

Common ingredients like alcohol and sodium lauryl sulfate. These can cause breakouts and are bad for your skin.

Check the order of the ingredients

The higher on a list of an ingredient, the stronger it will be on for its formulation. If the ingredient is lower at the bottom, the product may not contain the potent amount or provide the effect you seek.

Realism

Be skeptical about the dramatic claims made by the product such as “looking younger in ten minutes.” Anti-aging products do produce results but they are modest and usually take time, sometimes happening over weeks or months.
