The Beneficial Effects of Citronella Oil

Nature’s treasures have been enjoyed for generations, particularly in Asian countries. Essential oil is a significant byproduct of medicinal plants and herbs. The oil from the Citronella plant is one of the many popular oils. It has a floral and citrus-like aroma frequently confused with its close cousin, lemongrass. Its expanding appeal in various markets can be attributed to its perfume and the trust of generations who have profited from its diverse applications.

Ten Beneficial Effects of Citronella Oil

It is a mosquito repellent.

Getting bitten and dealing with rashes caused by mosquitoes is inconvenient and may constitute a health risk due to disease transmission. Applying citronella oil to your skin functions as an insect repellent for around 3 hours, protecting you from painful insect bites. It’s also beneficial to keep it in your home and use it with a diffuser to keep insects at bay in any of your selected rooms.

It is safe to use on fleas and ticks.

Our pets are members of the family. Taking care of them also entails assisting them in getting rid of parasites hidden beneath their coats. Two or three sprays of Citronella oil in your pet’s shampoo will help eliminate fleas, ticks, and unpleasant odors, without being too harsh on your pet’s skin.

It may inhibit the growth of dangerous germs.

According to reports, Citronella oil contains antifungal qualities that can help limit fungus growth. This is notably beneficial in the treatment of fungal diseases of the foot. Its pleasant scent also makes it suitable for regular usage at home because it is not overpowering.

It can deodorize rooms.

We’ve already stated how its aroma is floral and citrus-like. It can eliminate odor-causing microorganisms in the air and provide a pleasant aroma. It is a safe and simple deodorizer that may be used at home daily.

It can clean floors and furnishings.

Citronella oil’s antifungal effects can also be applied to the surface. As a result, it can be a safer and more natural alternative to harsh cleaning chemicals and be simple to use. Germs on your floors and furnishings can be removed by adding 1 to 2 caps to your cleaning water or spraying it directly with a mop/washcloth.

It may increase attentiveness.

The aroma of Citronella oil can provide a state of alertness, which can help keep your mind active throughout the day. This is especially useful during hectic work hours when you must keep your mind attentive but not agitated to operate.

It has the potential to improve your mood.

Citronella essential oil has been used in aromatherapy because its zesty scent helps relax the mind. This allows you to pause, release unpleasant emotions, and improve your attitude for the day.

It can aid in the treatment of insomnia.

Many studies have demonstrated that essential oils can help adults with interrupted sleep and enhance their sleep quality. In addition, researchers discovered that essential oils worked more successfully than acupressure in improving sleep quality.

It can neutralize unpleasant body odor.

Bacteria in wet regions such as underarms mainly cause a foul odor. When used topically, Citronella oil can eradicate odor-causing germs while remaining soft and safe on the skin. It can also be placed into a spray bottle and used as a body spray to mask unpleasant odors with a lemony and floral perfume.

To relieve insect bites

Bug bites are itchy, but it is better not to scratch them because doing so may result in an open wound that allows bacteria to enter. Citronella essential oils, for example, can help soothe bites and help you resist the need to scratch them. Then, you only need a topical treatment over the affected region to keep yourself from scratching.

Home Remedy With Citronella Essential Oil

Cubes of Citronella that repel insects

  • Four oz. (120 g) pure beeswax (cut if using bars)
  • 2 tbsp of coconut oil
  • 14 drops of essential oil of geranium
  • 12 drops of essential oil of citronella
  • 12 drops of essential rosemary oil
  • Ten drops of essential eucalyptus oil
  • An ice cube tray is an example of a mold.
  • 24-ounce (710mL) sealed container for candle diffuser

Forget about nasty, greasy citronella candles and that foul insect spray odor! These simple diffuser cubes do the job without the overbearing chemical odor. The best aspect is that the wax never evaporates, so these may be reused (add more essential oils as needed).

Step 1: Bring 2 inches (5cm) of water to a boil in a pot.

Step 2: Place the beeswax in a heat-safe glass measuring cup with a spout and set it in the pot. Turn the heat to medium and whisk occasionally until the beeswax melts. This can take anything from 10 to 15 minutes. (Alternatively, you can melt it in the microwave or a double boiler.)

Step 3: Stir in the coconut oil to thoroughly blend it with the wax.

Step 4: Remove the cup from the heat and set aside for 2 to 3 minutes to cool.

Step 5: Stir in the essential oils of geranium, citronella, rosemary, and eucalyptus before pouring into a mold. You should get six to eight little cubes depending on the size of the mold’s wells. Place the mold in the freezer to allow the wax to harden fast.

Step 6: To use, lay one cube atop a candle diffuser and light it outside. The wax will melt and begin diffusing the essential oils after 10 to 15 minutes. If the aroma isn’t strong enough or is starting to fade, add 2 to 3 drops of each oil.

Step 7: Keep the cubes cool and dry in an airtight container. Use within six months of purchase.

TIP: Use caution when handling the diffuser because it gets pretty hot. Allow it to cool completely before handling after you’ve finished using it. Place the chilled diffuser bowl in the cold or freezer for a few minutes to remove any built-up wax, then pop out the hardened wax.
